All the pieces here are part of the 'Divine Feminine' exhibition which was held at Macclesfield Library from 27th October to 8th November.
This exhibition was not only a development in my art but was in aid of Macmillan Cancer care in honour of my recently departed Grandfather, Mr. J. M. Patterson.

Thoughts and Inspiration for this collection

The Divine Feminine collection was started in May 2002 with the painting of 'Artemis'. I had not at that time decided where my art would lead. It was a gut feeling. A somewhat confident desire to move in a particular direction. I have ever believed that to be set within restricting criteria from the outset does any favours. The combination of quality materials, artistic knowledge and engagement with the subject, are as I believe, the key to 'good' art. Art in my mind, is about putting a part of yourself on canvas. This particular area allows me to do this.
If the Greek myths are considered as a religion, then the art applies to everyone. They may not be part of your belief system but, in everyday situations we are surrounded by varying beliefs as we are surrounded by Art itself. In one sense it could be said that religion and Art need one another. Religion needing Art for representation; Art needing religion for its history.
I have attempted to bring about the combination of need, but also give a more contemporary feel to 'Religious' painting.
