"The original watercolour was one of a series of floral still life paintings including
'Nasturtiums in a brass bowl' and 'Peruvian Lilies in a stoneware jar.'
I liked the soft mauve-blue of the irises and chose to echo these shades by using items including a Chinese
ginger jar, an old china jug of my grandmother's, a piece of patchwork
I made myself and an old blue glass marble.
I was particularly pleased with the effect of the soft wet-in-wet wash
used to create blue-grey shadows on the jug. The original painting
was done on 'not' pressed watercolour board."
