It was inspited by Monet. I used opalescent glass because it
provides the beautiful gradients of colour that can not be achieved
by using conventional mosaic tiles. The gradient of colour
is beautifully illustrated by the background green of the piece
which is, in fact, one piece of glass, cut into tiny pieces.
Tiffany completed a number of fire surrounds which were mosaiced
in opalescent (tiffany) glass.
Working in glass can be expensive. palescent glass is costly and comes
in sheet form. A lot of time is needed to continually
cut the glass sheets down to the minute sizes required for mosaic work.
