J.I. Stanway John I. Stanway has been an artist all his working life. After studying graphic art at Birmingham School Of Art, he obtained an apprenticeship in an advertising agency, based in Dudley. There he experienced every aspect of commercial art, finally ending his days there as chief graphic designer. From there, he went into partnership with a colleague, doing much the same thing. Then ending his career as a freelance graphic designer for the British carpet industry, designing brochures, displays and so on.
All through his career, John painted watercolours and oils for pleasure and profit. So it was the obvious thing to carry on into his sixties doing the same thing. Though John has painted mainly landscapes of the local countryside, he has also accepted commissions ranging from portraits, still life and pictures of people's houses and gardens. Over the years he has also had paintings accepted for the prestigious Midland Art Exhibition.
