Artist Info
Introduction:
Jean-Pierre is a visual artist living and working in the UK. He creates images in a variety of styles and media, though his output is heavily biased towards digitally created/enhanced art. He produces small-scale works, mainly in the form of limited-edition and open-edition giclee prints and also undertakes more traditional original works. Additionally, he has much experience of undertaking commercial and private commissions if required. Jean-Pierre also paints using his Breton pseudonym and Christian name, Yann Per.
Brief Biography:
Working as artist/engraver in the 1960's, Jean-Pierre undertook designs for many 'blue-chip' companies of the day, including first-day cover designs for the UK General Post Office, engraved stationery for the DeHavilland aircraft company and a variety of stamp, coin and medal designs for the UK and international market.
By the early 1970's commercial die-stamped engraving was declining and after undertaking painting classes at Birmingham School of Art the artist enrolled on an art & design foundation course. Leading directly from this, Jean-Pierre successfully completed a BA in Visual Communication and (a keen musician) a research MA in Music Tutor Book Design.
Following this, he worked briefly as a graphic designer/tutor for Chelsea College, contributing to the visual presentation modules of their teacher training program and for many years as a broadcast designer for BBC television. This subsequently led to work as a senior art director/head of design for a variety of UK and European based broadcast & satellite TV companies, design consultancies and advertising/marketing companies.
As broadcast design became more reliant on computer graphics for image making the artist became increasingly involved in using the computer as a design/image-making tool and successfully completed PgDip and MSc qualifications in computing. Since then he has worked with a number of new-media design and IT organisations across a variety of full-time and freelance/contract positions.
Now, working as a professional artist he concentrates on developing his own brand of image-making, relying heavily on the implementation of computer-based digital techniques similar to those used in his commercial creative career.
Artists Statement:
"My work is predominantly traditional in nature, subject manner and composition, though this is given a modern twist through the use of digital photo-montage and mixed-media techniques in realizing the final image. In terms of style, I create images that are predominantly drawn from, landscape and the 'great outdoors'. They are often atmospheric; mysterious in nature and in this regard I am very much influenced by the British Victorian painter Atkinson Grimshaw, whose empty moonlit enigmatic scenes have fascinated me for years".
