Artist Gordon Napier 'When it comes to my art, I generally work in a figurative, realist style, with oil paint as my preferred medium. I also do illustrative drawings in pencil/ink, and have occasionally made models and sculptures in various materials. My art often reflects my interests in history and mythology, and I am inspired by a wide range of historical styles- from ancient Egyptian art to Romanticism and Surrealism. Gothic art is another influence, and other have commented on my work's spiritual dimension. In 2001 I completed a joint degree in Art and History, at the University of Worcester. More recently I have studied for an MA in Crusader Studies at Royal Holloway, University of London. I have also written and illustrated two non-fiction books, 'The Rise and Fall of the Knights Templar' (published by Spellmount in 2003) and 'The Templar A-Z' (out in 2007). In the future I hope to pursue both my art and my historical writing.' |
