The quest to be humble a lifelong journey-Derek Bernstein Bernstein- 2007

My art deals with sexuality,spirituality and the masks we wear who are we really? What are we meant to be beyond conditioning etc.? What is our true purpose? Communication is my purpose- to communicate. I feel the possibility that we are meant to be our true selves and to find our true selves is our purpose. We all have lessons to learn. We are all on a journey.

I was a professioal freelance photgrapher from 1989-1997 before turning to oil and acrylic art. Street photography was my love. I am planning to combine in the near future oil art/digital art,words and photography.
I began to seriously paint while being an English teacher in Sao Paulo Brazil in 1999. Brazil being very spiritual - in a sense esoteric - a different consciousness crept into my life, helping me become an artist. Yet, I still see myself as a teacher .
