Plamen Kapitanski b. 1964, is a Bulgarian fine artist who has been working and living in London for the past few years. Having attended the College of Art in Sofia from 1978-1983, Kapitanski continued his formal education at the Academy of Fine Arts, Sofia 1985-1991. His artistic talent and passion for painting both frescoes, and oils on the finest canvases, have earned him the highest regard and fine reputation throughout Europe. Ensuing ten One-Man Shows and more than nine Joint Exhibitions throughout most capital cities in Europe, many of Kapitanski's works now hang in many private collections worldwide, including the USA and Canada. His portrait of the King of England, Richard the Lionheart is part of the Queen's private collection at The Tower of London. Kapitanski's retrospect of frescoes includes a brilliant representation of St. George. Three of his icons were painted especially for, and gifted to, the oldest Christian church in Bulgaria-"The Saint Three", in the Cross Wood in Rodopi mountain. This mountain is known as the Orphean mountain. The church itself keeps a piece of Jesus' Cross from Jerusalem given by Konstantin, the emperor of Byzantium, to Boris, the King of Bulgarians, for Christening of all the Bulgarians. The first icon is devoted to Jesus, the second icon represents Evtimi, the Head of Bulgarian church during the Middle Ages. The third icon is "Madonna"-the people visiting the church tell that it makes miracles. On October 28, 2002, Kapitanski presented his icon "Blessed Virgin Mary" to His Holiness, Pope John Paul II of his respect to His Holiness. |
