As someone with an unfashionably broad range of pursuits
within the creative world, the core of my artistic interests and contributions
may, today in the modern world, be recognised as engineering. The physical
skills and techniques involved may be typically those of an engineer
but the concepts and groundwork that guide me are the same as those that
guide me through a painting.
I am not a sketchbook artist. Although the mental preparation
for a piece is considerable, any physical preparatory work is always
minimal and in the case of a painting, much of the preparatory work is on the canvas, under the
finished piece.
With so many variables available for me to play with and with
so many avenues to explore, it may seem that each successive, creative move
can be nothing other than random. History, Culture and the progress of human
civilisation is the final constraint.
Currently, I am working on a purely mechanical machine that
will amplify the remarkable, naturally evolved control that a human has
over moving objects. By using Mathematics, Physics, Logic and Artistic Taste,
it is this objective of control that can be called, if anything my style.
It is the essential spiritual accomaniments of this product on the machine that
are on show here.
Aged 22, I still have much to explore.
