ARTIST STATEMENT
In 2003 I came back to art, having spent many years pursuing other careers.
My work is primarily still life, and I use oil paints as I love the rich
colours and textures they provide. I mainly paint on canvas, sometimes on
textures canvas paper and wood. I like to work on all sizes of canvas.
Along with sales to and commissions for UK and international customers, my
work has been displayed in a bought by London galleries. My flower
paintings are very popular, and I have been concentrating on this subject
for a while now. People have noted that the detail in some of my work can
look quite surreal, where different shapes occur within the subject.
Artists I admire are Salavador Dali, Vermeer, Van Gogh, Warhol and Georgia
O'Keeffe. I enjoy the sensual aspect of her flower paintings and think that
flowers and other plants can, in many ways, resemble parts of the human
body. I also like the Realist artists, particularly Audrey Flack. Some of
her still life work is reminiscent of the old Dutch masters. I also enjoy
abstract art, and have completed some commissions in this genre too.
