Artist Li Zhuangzhi uses ancient Chinese and Bhudist mythological symbols mixed with modern sybolism as metaphors to represent the facades presented by people to the outside world while their "secret" internal psyche (painted as the main composition
laid bare for all to see) is completely in conflict. In many of his original oil paintings, the Golden carp shown symbolise success, wealth and good fortune - the facade presented to the outside world. The internal belief knows that while the fish can swim safely in their little world (the fish tank), they will remain lucky, safe, happy and successful. If, however, the fish dare to leave their sphere - to live outside in the air and not in the water - they will die. Li says that this series of paintings depict an internal jouney of his own emotions experienced some years ago, the culmination of which is a most beautiful spiritually uplifting painting entitled "Back Home". Li has been trained in classical art at the St. Petersburg Art Institiute. He currently resides in Beijing where he is studying for a PHD and where he lectures in Fine Art Restoration.

The paintings are painted on heavy quality 300 lb Arches paper
and are lovingly embellished with real gold leaf.
We in the western world take so much for granted. By comparison, life in Africa is hard and contemporary artist John K Kaminja does not flinch
from painting all aspects of the hardships which touch everyday life
in Kenya for nearly everybody who lives there. John paints of the
Christian beliefs, Maasai warriers, wildlife, family love and sadness, Aids and everyday events of the working population in Africa. This modern style oil painting shows a child travelling alone to school, his head full of problems. The roof on the school has caved in -
a very common occurence in African villages. Included among John's
new oil paintings are also some delicate and beautiful Batiks representing
some parables from the Bible. John is a very serious and dedicated artist
and we feel privileged to be selling his art here for him.
